CHENNAI: Describing as wrong the argument of Rajya Sabha MP Kanimozhi’s counsel that she should be given bail in 2G spectrum case because she was a woman, Chief Minister and AIADMK general secretary J Jayalalithaa on Tuesday said, “when criminal activities are concerned, one cannot expect any leniency to be shown because one is a woman.”When a scribe recalled that the previous DMK regime had filed cases and arrested her in 1996 and were now arguing that Kanimozhi should be given bail because she was a woman, Jayalalithaa said, “It is a wrong argument. In politics, you cannot expect any concession to be shown because you are a woman. Similarly, where criminal activities are concerned, one cannot expect any leniency to be shown because one is a woman.”Responding to another query, the Chief Minister said, “Finally, the law is taking its own course and action is being taken according to law. After a long time, people’s faith in the judicial system has been restored.”
