KATTAPPANA: A woman, admitted to the district hospital at Cheruthoni for delivery, died on Friday, allegedly of medical negligence.Sunitha, 32, wife of Satheesh, a native of Upputhode, was admitted to the hospital last week.The duty doctor postponed the delivery to the evening.However, he didn’t turn up and the victim suffered internal bleeding.Sunitha was rushed to Kottayam Medical College Hospital where an emergency surgery was conducted.Though the baby survived, Sunitha succumbed to internal ailments on Friday.After postmortem, the body will be cremated in the compound of her house at Upputhode on Saturday.Sunitha’s death sparked off protests prompting the BJP to take out a protest march to the district hospital on Friday.Protestors who entered the hospital compound shouting slogans against hospital authorities, were stopped by the police.They demanded a probe into the incident and dismissal of the doctor.A murder case has been charged against the doctor at Cheruthoni police station.
