Bengaluru: A woman passenger has filed a police complaint against Delhi immigration official on Saturday for sexual harassment.
Earlier, a senior immigration officer Vinod Kumar had been suspended by authorities for allegedly harassing a woman passenger. After prima facie merit was found in the allegations against him, the Ministry of Home Affairs ordered an inquiry into it.
Earlier on Friday evening, a young woman from Bengaluru was harassed repeatedly at the Delhi airport on her way to Macau via New Delhi. Kumar who is an Immigration Assistant at the Indira Gandhi International Airport in New Delhi asked her a series of personal and intrusive questions and followed her inside the airport.
"I was alone. He started looking at my passport etc and then he continued to ask me very uncomfratble questions at the immigration desk," said the woman passenger.
On returning from Hong Kong the woman approached the Foreign Registration office in Delhi where an official told her they cannot file an written complaint. The woman's family then wrote to the Bureau of Immigration but no one has responded to their complaint yet. "We are willing to give police complaint with Delhi commissioner," said victim's father-in-law.
The Union home ministry has stepped in and started an internal probe against the officer. The ministry has also advised the complainant to file a police complaint.
