New Delhi: A remake of the 1973 eponymous film, Apoorva Lakhia's 'Zanjeer' marks the Bollywood debut of popular southern star Ram Charan Teja, who steps into a role originally essayed by megastar Amitabh Bachchan. He shares screen space with Priyanka Chopra, Prakash Raj and Sanjay Dutt.
Apoorva Lakhia says his 'Zanjeer' is different from the original and has more commercial elements. "I'm very happy with the way the film has shaped up. This project is very close to my heart and it's different from the original. It's a commercial film and I'm eagerly waiting for its release," said Lakhia.
"I am happy with the power-packed performance of Ram Charan (Teja) and Priyanka (Chopra). They have done a fabulous job," he added.
This is the third remake of a Big B-starrer that Priyanka features in. "Mr. Bachchan is my favorite actor. I am glad I have been a part of his remake films. I think it's a co-incidence," she said.
Earlier, she was seen in the remake of Amitabh's 'Don' and 'Agneepath'.
Priyanka Chopra will don two distinct looks for 'Zanjeer', says designer Pria Kataria Puri, who is making her Bollywood foray with the movie. "In the first half of 'Zanjeer' when she's abroad, Priyanka would be dressed as a woman entrepreneur should be dressed. You see, in today's times, a working woman from India doesn't stand out at the airport. She looks like any chic well-dressed woman from any part of the world," said Puri.
Mahie Gill will also be seen in a small role in 'Zanjeer'. "Watch 'Zanjeer' for my clothes and my look," said Mahie.
'Zanjeer' also initiated a debate about the remake rights of a milestone film as some people associated with the original didn't want the remake to happen without their consent.
However, this is not the only problem that the film has to face. The audience can't be restricted from comparing Ram Charan with Big B. And, in case Ram Charan fails to impress the spectators, the film's collections can be hampered.
'Zanjeer' was the film which started the trend of angry young man in Bollywood which was later emulated in several films, so even the minute details will be under scanner. But, there is another side to it as well. If the cast and crew of 'Zanjeer' live up to the expectations then they might become the new national heartthrobs. The viewers don't need to wait for more than 24 hours to see the results as the film is hitting the screens on September 6, 2013. (With inputs from IANS)
