New Delhi: Pakistani President Asif Ali Zardari is fit and will return to work next week says his close aide Wajid Shamsul Hassan who is also Pakistan's ambassador to the UK.

Zardari was released from a Dubai hospital on Wednesday evening. Zardari had been admitted to a Dubai hospital on December 6 due to a "mild" stroke that caused bleeding in the brain and facial paralysis.

His sudden exit had sparked speculation of a military coup. Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani had said Zardari had insisted on treatment overseas as he feared for his life in Pakistani hospitals. Speaking to CNN-IBN, Hassan also rejected rumours of the Pakistani Army sidelining the President.

"President zardari is now recovering once he gets a clearance by doctors he will resume his duties. After all he is a human being and can fall sick but unfortunately the media in Pakistan has been floating stories. For last 4 years they have been trying to see him go. But all predictions and deadlines have fallen flat on their face. So called analysts and experts have been giving deadlines," Hassan said.
