A court in Rajasthan’s Jaipur sentenced three people for killing a 28-year-old businessman, whom one of the accused had met five years ago on an online dating platform.

Sessions Judge Ajit Kumar Hinger, in his order on Friday said that the prosecution has presented adequate evidence in order to verify the facts.

A 28-year old man was stabbed to death by his Tinder date after the victim’s family failed to pay Rs 10 lakh as a part of a ransom which she demanded after kidnapping the man at her place.

Prosecution counsel Sandeep Lohariya quoted the judge as saying, “The prosecution has presented adequate evidence to authenticate these facts. The evidence presented by the prosecution proved that the accused have committed the crime.”

On the basis of the evidence, the three accused was convicted by the court under sections 342 (wrongful confinement), 302 (murder), 201 (causing disappearance of evidence of offence) and 120-B (criminal conspiracy) of the Indian Penal Code and sentenced them to life imprisonment.

Priya and Dushyant started their relationship in February 2018 but on the basis of two lies. The accused, 27-year old Priya started interacting with the man only to kidnap and extort money from him whereas the victim, identified as Dushyant lied about the fact that he was already married. He also claimed himself to be a wealthy businessman from Delhi and used a fake name – Vivan Kohli- on the online dating platform.

As per several media reports, the accused kidnapped Dushyant after calling him to her place with the help of her two companions –  Dikshant Kamra and Lakshya Walia.

On making a ransom call to the victim’s family in order to demand Rs 10 lakh, Priya and her accomplices realised that Dushyant had put up a fake identity all this time.

After the victim’s father deposited Rs 3 lakh in his son’s account, the accused used Dushyant’s debit card to withdraw Rs 20,000 from an ATM near Jaipur’s Nehru Udhyan. Fearing that their crime will come to light, the accused killed Dushyant, cut his body into pieces and stuffed them into a suitcase, and then dumped it on the Delhi road.

Priya and Dikashant have a criminal history. She was arrested thrice in 2014, 2016 and 2017 for breaking an ATM machine while Kamra was arrested once in Mumbai.
