Milind Soman on How to Go About Life When Laziness Gets the Better of You

Model and actor Milind Soman’s Instagram profile is full of inspirational fitness videos. Soman, who is known for his commitment towards a fitter and healthy life, too, surprisingly, fights the urge to lie on the couch and waste all day. However, this urge, for him, is a reminder of how life can become if not takes seriously. Hence, he will be participating in the the Lifelong Fight Lazy Run on July 31st in Delhi.

“We did the first edition in Mumbai on 3rd July and the response was really good. That is why we decided to take it to another city. It is a very exciting event,” he says.

“It is not a normal event. We are also promoting strength building activities that you can do outside the gym as well. Sometimes people have the excuse that they don’t have the time, they don’t have equipment etc. so it’s not just running. After the run you come back and you can compete against each other as to how many push-ups you can do or how many planks can you do etc. it is basically to encourage people to incorporate strength building and walking even if you run or walk every day.”

Soman says the pandemic has been a wakeup call for a lot of people when it comes to fitness. “Since the pandemic people are convinced that they have to make the effort to take care of their health because once you neglect your health then it is gone forever,” he says.

According to him taking care of one’s health should be the topmost priority one must have. “In the pandemic we were told that people who had underlying health issues like diabetes or heart disease they are more susceptible or more at risk to any virus,” he recollects.

Soman also busts half-baked theories that circulate on the internet regarding health. He says these easy ways “do not work in isolation”.

“When you don’t take care of your health that means that your immune system will also suffer. People think that just by drinking turmeric milk or by popping pills your immunity will increase. That is not true. It does not work in isolation. You have to work towards making it stronger, and that can be done only by taking care of your health,” he explains.

For the 56-year-old, it is paramount that he takes time out for himself. “It is important to focus on yourself, even if it is for 10-15 minutes. Some people think that being active and traveling for work counts. It doesn’t. Activities focused on yourself will improve your health. Activities focused on the outside world will only give you stress,” he concludes.
