Oscars 2015: What made it such a crazy, memorable event?
Read on to know more.

It may have began as a tiny team of men and women - who referred to themselves as Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences - discussing and appreciating cinema at a low-key dinner party. Decades later, the event has now turned the great Oscar night of suspense, victory and envy - all rolled into one.

And yes, while many stars made headlines for their expensive gowns and even costlier jewelleries, the event played host to several unforgettable moments. Read on to know about the not-so-expected instances that made the event worth watching.

'Birdman' wins big

While many expected Alejandro Gonzalez Iñarritu to win Best Director for Birdman, there were those too who were least impressed. The film dominated the Oscars by bagging eight awards including Best Picture. Director Inarritu took to the stage to thank the audience for watching his "crazy film."

Neil Patrick Harris was truly amazing

You've definitely seen the host dance, croon, joke around to entertain the guests. But have you ever seen him sprinting in his undies? Well, that's exactly what Neil Patrick Harris did besides using awful puns, mispronouncing names and stupid wordplay.

Political issues remain crucial

Besides the glitz and glamour, the event also brought to the fore some political issues. If you thought Neil's comment Tonight we honour Hollywood's best and whitest - sorry, brightest"" was just meant to make people laugh, you are mistaken. It was done to talk about the #OscarsSoWhite debate. If Jennifer Lawrence and Amy Adams talked about being underpaid, Patricia Arquette made the best of her best supporting actress speech by talking about the equal rights for women."To every woman who gave birth, to every taxpayer and citizen of this nation, we have fought for everybody else's equal rights. It's our time to have wage equality once and for all and equal rights for women in the United States of America," Patricia said. And the relevance and impact of what she said could be easily gauged by how Meryl Streep and Jennifer Lopez reacted. Reese Witherspoon too used #AskHerMore campaign to urge reporters to ask women about their work and not the outfit they wore.

Lady Gaga's performance

Agreed, at the Oscars ceremony, the high points were completely musical. But it was the manner in which Lady Gaga didn't resort to her expected theatrics and opted for a sober look and memorable performance to pay tribute to The Sound of Music that helped her stand out. The fact that she wasn't shocking made her presence so shocking.

What's your reaction?
