Pitru Paksha is dedicated to honouring the deceased ancestors and paying respect to them. It is generally observed for 15-16 days. This year, it will commence on September 17 and conclude on October 2. It is observed from Bhadrapada Purnima Tithi, the full moon day, which marks the Pitru Paksha Shradh. During this time, Hindus perform Shradh rituals like Tarpan, Shraddha, Pinddaan etc., are performed for their ancestors. This time, the second lunar and solar eclipse of the year is during Pitru Paksha. Astrologer Pandit Nandkishore Mudgal of Devghar highlights the effects of Solar and Lunar Eclipse on Pitru Paksha and advises the necessary precautions to be taken on this occasion by the Hindu devotees.
As per Local 18, this year, Pitru Paksha will start with a lunar eclipse. Pitru Paksha will start with Pratipada Shradh on September 17. The second lunar eclipse of the year is going to occur on the same day making the Pitru Paksha unauspicious. The second lunar eclipse of the year will not be visible in India, but its impact will be considered on Pitru Paksha.
According to Indian time, the lunar eclipse will happen at 6:12 am and will end at 10:17 am. The astrologer said that this eclipse will not have any effect on India, yet the person performing Shradh should keep in mind that they should not perform Shradh until the eclipse period is over. He advised to start the Shradh of Pratipada only after the end of the Moksha period of the eclipse.
Astrologer Pandit Nandkishore Mudgal said that this time the beginning and end of Pitru Paksha are going to fall during an eclipse. The second solar eclipse of the year is going to take place on the day of the end of Pitru Paksha i.e. on October 2. According to Indian time, the second solar eclipse of the year will start at 9:13 pm and end at 3:17 am late night.
The astrologer said that this year, both the lunar eclipse and the solar eclipse are going to occur in the same fortnight. As per the scriptures, two eclipses in one fortnight are not considered a good sign.
