China’s Zhangjiajie Glass footpath is a skywalk bridge in the Hunan region, which attracts tourists from across the country. Many fear that the bridge may collapse or crack, they still walk on this to tackle their fear. Now, one will not have to go to China to experience the glass skywalk anymore. India too has given tough competition to the country by building not one, but multiple glass bridges that have become an attraction. What has been gaining the most attention is Uttar Pradesh’s glass bridge, which has been made in the shape of a bow and arrow of Lord Ram.
In Uttar Pradesh’s Chitrakoot, a glass bridge in the shape of a bow and arrow is being built. This is the state’s first glass bridge. The length of the arrow-shaped bridge is 25 metres (approx 82 feet), while the width of the bow is 35 metres (114 feet). Reportedly, the bridge can bear a 500 kg load per square metre. The construction of the glass bridge will be completed by this year and will be opened soon for tourists. It has been noticed that wherever glass bridges have been built, it has attracted a lot of tourists.
Apart from Uttar Pradesh, Sikkim has a glass bridge. The Sky Walk Pelling Sikkim is in the Pelling town of this North-East state. It is constructed at an altitude of 7,200 feet above sea level and is open for tourists from 8 am to 5 pm. It is nestled among the majestic Himalayas and the skywalk adds to the allure of the spot as you will get panoramic views of the mountains, rivers and forests.
In Bihar, you will find the Rajgir Glass Bridge in Nalanda, Bihar, which has been modelled after China’s Hangzhou Glass Bridge. The Rajgir skywalk is 85-foot long and 6-foot-wide and was inaugurated in 2021. It is situated amid five hills and draws many domestic and international tourists every year. It can accommodate up to 40 visitors at a time. To come here, it is better that you book online in advance or you can arrive early in the morning and book tickets.
Kerala recently joined the list after the Akkulam Glass Bridge, which was inaugurated a few months back. It is located within the Akkulam Tourist Village and is 36 metres long (approx 118 feet). It has been constructed 54 metres (approx 177 feet) above the ground. The bridge offers a panoramic view of the park and Akkulam lake. It also has an artificial mist, simulated rain showers and illusionary glass cracking among other things.
