In a tete-e-tete with Varun Bahl, the designer speaks about the latest trend, exclusion of swimsuit round from Miss World pageant and the pioneer of Indian fashion- Rohit Khosla.
Here's an excerpt from the interview:
What are the new trends to watch out for in 2015?
I think 2015 is going to be all about flowy silhouettes with a Bohemian touch. Flared pants would be the 'IT' garments of the year as they make a comeback along with a lot of high-waist silhouettes which shall be in trend in 2015. I'm also working on the jumpsuit sharara this year so, that's something which would incorporate the style elements of the year. Also, I feel florals can never go out of fashion and 2015 will see a lot of floral prints and motifs.
Recently the swimsuit round has been excluded from the Miss World pageant. What's your take on this?
I don't think excluding one round from the pageant is going to make any difference, the real test of the participants is in the way they answer the questions and how confident they look on stage.
Would want to know more from you about designer Rohit Khosla and his designs. Any incident you remember that you had with him?
Unfortunately I never met him and was very young when he passed away. But I've heard a lot of good things about him and he certainly was way ahead of his time. Hence, he is known as the pioneer of Indian Fashion.
You are among one of those few designers foraying into the online market? Are Indian buyers really shopping for designer stuff online?
Yes, of course. Why else would I be in this sphere ?
