North Korea is known for having various bizarre laws. The country practices a complete dictatorship under Kim Jong Un, the supreme leader of the Asian country. He has reportedly imposed various bizarre rules that are hard to abide by. But the people of the country have to abide by these laws.

There are even laws related to fashion. If people fail to abide by those fashion laws then they are severely punished. In North Korea, most of the popular global fashion and cosmetics brands are banned. There is a strict ban, especially on the use of red lipstick.

Why using Red lipstick is a crime in North Korea?

The ban on using red lipstick in North Korea is not just a fashion regulation. This law is deeply rooted in the dictator’s ideology. The colour red is often considered as a symbol of liberation. On the other hand, it is believed the women in red lipstick look attractive which can cause moral decay in the country. As the government of North Korea mainly runs on conservative ideology, the supreme leader Kim Jong Un decided to bad red lipstick and also impose a law in which women can only apply simplistic makeup.

How the law is enforced in North Korea?

According to a report by Times Now, the North Korean government have employed many people to check the makeup of women. The government also uses various strategies to ensure that the laws on personal fashion are followed. Authorities conduct routine checks and if someone fails to abide by the rules, they are punished with severe penalties. The government believes that such steps are necessary to maintain their dominance over the people and also prevent external influences.

There are even rules of hairstyle in North Korea. Women are not allowed to keep long hair or do any kind of hairstyle. The hair should be short and neatly groomed. Adding to the stringent rules, hair colouring is also banned in the country. The supreme leader of the country has allowed a limited number of hairstyles i.e. 10 for men and 18 for women. All the citizens can only apply the allowed hairstyles or they have to face strict punishment.
