Fighters that they are, revival tales of Yuvraj Singh, Manisha Koirala and Lisa Ray set examples for those grappling with cancer, and trying to battle their way out from the clutches of the deadly disease.

On World Cancer Day, Yuvraj reaches out for the cause and tweets:

Yuvraj Singh in one of his interviews opened up on how cancer helped him become a better person and how he can set an example for those suffering from the disease.

"It was a long and tough journey but now when I look back, it was a big learning lesson in my life. I learnt, ‘Every day you have to live life’. You hope for the best and be prepared for the worst. I’m a changed person. Earlier everything was about cricket and now, I look forward to life," Yuvraj told HT.

"Obviously, nobody wants to go through cancer but it has definitely got the better person out of me. After that, the roller coaster ride I went through, I never thought of ‘why me’," he added.

Yuvraj's return to his old self after having fought the the deadly ailment is a huge inspiration to cancer patients and helps change the stigmatic perception of the society towards them.

Actress Manisha Koirala, who bravely battled ovarian cancer, never misses a chance to raise awareness on the rising incidence of cancer and all that can be done to eradicate the disease. On World Caner Day, she extends solidarity to those fighting cancer and seeks support to eradicate cancer.

Internationally acclaimed performer, philanthropist and actor Lisa Ray's battle against cancer also is an inspiration to the world.

During the summer of 2009, Lisa scanned for multiple myeloma (a type of cancer). She was in shock initially, which was followed by denial but she never lost hope and tried to transform the experience into something which could help others. "My father’s love and support were unconditional and overwhelming. He slept in my hospital room in a cot while I was going through my stem cell transplant. I owe this remarkable man everything," Lisa said in one of her interviews. Besides this, the love and support she received from people around the world – particularly India – motivated her to overcome myeloma. An ardent believer in the power of prayers she said going through treatment was very tough at times but humour and writing helped her fight it.
