Two people have been arrested and sent to jail in connection with an alleged rape of a teenage girl in Uttar Pradesh's Gorakhpur district. The girl was allegedly raped and singed with cigarette butts by the two men on Friday in the Gola area of Gorakhpur district as per allegations made by the girl's family.
The girl was found unconscious on Sunday by her parents, who work as labourers at a brick kiln, and is currently undergoing treatment at the district hospital.
In a video statement on the case, Police Officer Vipul Srivastava said that both the culprits have been booked and sent to jail. "Two people have been arrested and were charged with appropriate sections of the IPC which also include POCSO Act and rape charges. The two accused are Arjun who hails from a nearby village while the other accused is Chotu, both have been arrested and are sent to jail," he said.
According to reports, the teenage girl had gone to fetch water from a hand pump on Friday night, when the two accused forcibly took her to a hut near a pond in the village on a motorcycle and allegedly raped her.
Alleging that the accused burnt the girl with butt of the cigarettes, the father said, "My daughter told me that she was abducted and raped over night by these men."
Recently in a similar case reported where two men were arrested in connection with the rape and murder case of a 13-year-old Dalit girl in Lakhimpur Kheri. The girl's body was found in a sugarcane field that belonged to one of the accused, police said on Saturday. The girl's father said that her eyes were gouged out, her tongue was cut and she was strangled with a 'dupatta', according to a report by NDTV. The horrific incident happened on Friday, under the Isanagar police station limits, police said.
The victim had gone missing on Friday afternoon, and the father said that they had started looking for her when she did not return till late evening. They noticed some dragging marks near a sugarcane field and found her body, the police said. The girl's father has denied enmity with anyone in the village, they added.
"On the complaint by the deceased's father, two youths identified as Sanjay and Santosh have been arrested," DSP Pratap told PTI.
An FIR has been registered under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code besides the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act and the SC/ST Act, he said. A few media reports also said that the National Security Act would be slapped against the accused.
Pratap denied reports about injuries to the girl's eyes and tongue. The post-mortem conducted by a panel of doctors showed no such thing. "The post-mortem report stated the cause of the girl's death was strangulation after rape," he said.
