A jail term hasn’t been a dampener for either politicians or film stars. We’ve heard numerous accounts, be it bollywood actor Sanjay Dutt who returned from jail to give us hits like Munnabhai MMBS or the more recent jailbird politician VK Sasikala, who was given a grand welcome in Tamil Nadu on her return. A similar fate might meet Sandalwood actress Ragini Dwivedi, who spent 3 months at the Parappana Agrahar prison in Bengaluru.
A conversation between Ragini and producer V Nagendra Prasad, got the later thinking of making a movie about Ragini’s jail stay. Although, the actress hasn’t give it much thought, the producer is excited about giving the movie the title Kambi Hindina Kanasugalu, the literal translation in english being “Dreams from behind bars”
“Nothing is certain yet, i spoke with Ragini and she was telling me about her hardship while in prison and the pressure she faced. That sparked the idea in my head that it would make a story. We haven’t discussed any details as the matter is still in court, its too preliminary at this stage” Prasad told CNN News 18
This would be a good opportunity for Ragini to monetise on, not that the actress isn’t getting film offers. She recently announced the release of her next film titled Karva 3, which will be directed by Vishal Shekar.
When Ragini was asked about her biopic she jokingly said that she was too young to be making one. “Aren’t biopics made of people above 75 years, I’m still young. But jokes apart,it is too early to make a biopic on me, but it will be interesting to see what will it be like. I have not heard of the title of read any script yet,” she told media persons on Wednesday.
Ragini, who is currently out on bail on medical grounds is charged in a drug trafficking case and was arrested on September 4. She was made accused no. 2 and charged under various sections of the NDPS Act for allegedly peddling and consuming substances. Another sandalwood actress Sajanna Galrani was also arrested in the same case and was released on bail.
