Amitabh Bachchan dressed up as Ashwatthama from his upcoming film, Kalki 2898 AD, to send out a special message to Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli and the other members of the Indian T20 World Cup squad. Earlier this week, India announced the 15 member squad that will travel to New York and West Indies for the T20 World Cup. Following the announcement, a new video was premiered on Wednesday during an IPL 2024 match in which Amitabh wished the men in blue.

The video featured the background score of Kalki 2898 AD while Amitabh narrated a poem to wish the players. “Ye mahayudh hai, ab hoja tu taiyaar (This is a war, get ready for it). Ab ban ja veer, buland kar le apni taqdeer, dikha dum, laga dum (Now, become brave, elevate your destiny, show your strength, put in effort),” he said in the video. Watch it below:

For the unversed, India will be captained by Rohit Sharma at the T20 World Cup tournament. The team comprises of members Hardik Pandya (VC), Yashasvi Jaiswal, Virat Kohli, Suryakumar Yadav, Rishabh Pant (WK), Sanju Samson (WK), Shivam Dube, Ravindra Jadeja, Axar Patel, Kuldeep Yadav, Yuzvendra Chahal, Arshdeep Singh, Jasprit Bumrah, and Mohammad Siraj. The reserves include Shubman Gill, Rinku Singh, Khaleel Ahmed and Avesh Khan.

Meanwhile, Kalki 2898 AD is set to release this June. Besides Amitabh Bachchan, the films stars Prabhas, Deepika Padukone, Kamal Haasan and Disha Patani.

During a recent event, a student asked Nag why his film resembled Dune and if they had any similarities. The student said, “Project K (the film’s working title) looks a lot like the Hollywood movie Dune when it comes to the theme and the art work.” To this, Nag Ashwin replied, “It’s because of the sand. They (another student) noticed the film has sand in it, no? Basically, whenever there’s sand, it’ll look like Dune.”

Earlier, Nag spoke about the film’s inspiration at the Synapse 2024 event in Gurgaon. He said, “The film starts with Mahabharat and ends in 2898 AD. It spans 6000 years in time. We tried to create worlds, imagining what they would be like while still keeping it Indian and not making it look like Blade Runner.”
