After months of denial and speculation, the news that one of Hollywood’s most loved couples – Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt – splitting up was confirmed on Tuesday night after Jolie filed for divorce.
The story of how Brangelina met and fell apart is nothing short of a film’s script in itself.
For years, the couple gave relationship goals to the youngsters from around the world. Be it them expanding their family or Brad standing by Jolie through her cancer days; looked like they were the chosen one!
The two of them met while shooting for Mr and Mrs Smith in 2005. While Brad was still married to Jennifer Aniston, Angelina had recently divorced Billy Bob Thornton.
After a month-long formal separation, Jennifer filed for divorce from Pitt citing "irreconcilable differences".
When Angelina and Pitt got busy in promotions of the steamy action-comedy Mr and Mrs Smith, the rumours of their closeness start ramping up.
In October 2005, Pitt and Aniston’s divorce is finalised. Soon after the divorce, Pitt is snapped accompanying Jolie as she heads to Pakistan to participate in earthquake relief efforts.
Everything became official in 2006 when Jolie confirmed in an interview to People Magazine that she’s soon having a baby with Pitt. They also got the last names of her two kids, Maddox and Zahara changed to Jolie-Pitt.
In May 2006, their first daughter, Shiloh Nouvel Jolie-Pitt is born in Namibia. The two continued to expand their family; adopted a three-year-old son Pax Thien from Vietnam. At the Cannes Film Festival 2008, Jolie confirmed she was pregnant with twins Vivienne Marcheline and Knox Leon.
The duo then moved ahead to debut their wine, an award-winning rosé, which was specially made at their 1,000-acre vineyard in France. In 2013, Jolie expressed her choice to undergo a double mastectomy, citing genetic predispositions towards breast cancer.
Succumbing to their kids’ pressure in 2014, the two of them officially tied the knot in a close ceremony in the presence of a small number of guests and their six children.
The two actors finally appeared together on the big screen in 2014 in Jolie’s directorial By The Sea.
With the announcement of the split in September 2016, #Brangelina quickly became the top trending news on Twitter. While Angelina hasn’t issued any statement yet, Pitt gave out a statement to People magazine and said, “I am very saddened by this, but what matters most now is the well-being of our kids. I kindly ask the press to give them the space they deserve during this challenging time.”
