Actresses like Anushka Sharma, Priyanka Chopra and Katrina Kaif have often spoken up about facing discrimination in Bollywood because of being women. They have said that actresses are often shunned for having an opinion. Anushka Sharma once opened up about how deep this thought runs in Bollywood.
Anushka told Anupama Chopra, “Even if you’re on an outdoor schedule, you know the guy is going to get a better room than you. Why does that need to happen? I’m sure every hotel has like two really good rooms.”

Anushka said that actresses are often called ‘difficult’ when they try to voice their opinions. Anushka said, “You’re not being unreasonable. Listen, we’re not stupid. We are not dumb. We haven’t come this far in life by being stupid or floozy. All the actresses in the industry are intelligent and speak their minds. But if she’s making a suggestion or request, ‘she’s being difficult’.” “The really evolved, big names in the industry, they tell me, ‘You’re like an activist.’ People don’t like women with guts in this industry,” she added.
The video resurfaced on Reddit and people agreed with Anushka. One person wrote, “She is right even in general life people don’t like women who speak their minds.” Another added, “I agree with the dumb thing she said. Many actresses are called as dumb bimbos and all their success is attributed to just luck or sleeping around. On the other hand, male outsiders are given credit for their hard work/ hustle/smartness.”
One fan of the actress wrote, “One thing I respected about Anushka, Katrina and PC, they have no issue standing up for themselves and saying it how it is. Anushka and Katrina don’t even pretend if they don’t like you.” Another added, “I like Anushka, speaks her mind & stands her ground. This no bs attitude is good.”
Anushka emphasised that actresses are intelligent and have their opinions, however, the industry doesn’t treat them as equal to men.
