Over a career spanning more than a decade, Shilpa Shirodkar graced the silver screen in several films, including Trinetra, Hum and Khuda Gawah.

Shilpa Shirodkar is an actress who gained popularity in the 90s for her roles in successful films alongside Govinda and Anil Kapoor. Despite having a successful career, she encountered difficulties due to obesity and faced several rejections within the industry. She took a break for 15 years from movies and transitioned to the television industry where she continued working for a period before stepping away from the entertainment industry.

Her journey in the film industry began in 1989 with the movie Corruption, directed by Ramesh Sippy. Sharing the screen with Mithun Chakraborty and Rekha in her debut film, Shilp established her identity from the onset of her career.

In 1990, Shilpa Shirodkar collaborated with Anil Kapoor in the movie Kishen Kanhaiya. Portraying the role of Anil Kapoor’s wife, her depiction of the ideal daughter-in-law resonated well with the audience. In her career span, Shilpa shared the screen with numerous renowned names, showcasing her versatility in the industry.

The movie Aankhen, released in 1993 and starring Govinda and Chunky Pandey, remains a favourite among audiences. Shilpa Shirodkar portrayed the character of Chandramukhi and was paired opposite Govinda in the movie. The on-screen rapport between Govinda and Shilpa garnered favourable reviews from the audience. Alongside, the film’s songs achieved considerable popularity, adding to its overall success.

Despite reaching the pinnacle of her career, Shilpa bid farewell to Bollywood after tying the knot. Her last appearance was in the film Gaja Gamini was released 22 years ago in the year 2000.

In a recent interview with ETimes, Shilpa Shirodkar discussed the challenges she faced in her career. She opened up about a particular instance where she faced rejection, notably for the well-known song Chaiyyaan Chaiyyaan from the movie Dil Se. Shirodkar shared that Farah Khan turned down the opportunity, citing a preference for a slimmer actress for the song. As a result, the role eventually went to Malaika Arora.

Shilpa Shirodkar made a comeback in 2013 with the TV show Ek Mutthi Aasman. The audience resonated with her character in the show and it received positive reviews. Despite the appreciation, Shilpa hasn’t been seen in any new projects after the show ended.
