Dakota Johnson Reacts To Her Viral 'Researching Spiders' Dialogue In Madame Web Trailer
Madame Web star Dakota Johnson said she doesn't know what to make of the 'Researching Spiders in the Amazon' meme.

The anticipation for Sony Pictures’ upcoming Marvel movie, Madame Web, reached new heights after the release of its first trailer in November last year. Clocking in at a robust three minutes, the trailer offered viewers a comprehensive glimpse into the Dakota Johnson-led film. However, it was a single line of dialogue that stole the spotlight, igniting a wildfire of memes and discussions across the internet.

In a pivotal moment halfway through the trailer, Dakota Johnson’s titular character drops a bombshell revelation, declaring, “I’ve seen that man before… Ezekiel Sims. He was in the Amazon with my mom when she was researching spiders right before she died.” The unexpected injection of exposition within a seemingly innocuous line sent social media platforms into a frenzy, with users dissecting its implications and creating a plethora of memes.

Johnson, when questioned about the line’s viral status in an interview with HuffPost UK, expressed surprise at its reception. Puzzled by the attention, she mused, “Why did that go viral? Somebody brought this up and I have no idea what it’s about. But isn’t any sentence out of context… out of context? What a silly thing. ‘He was in the Amazon researching spiders with my mom before she died.’ That seems like a basic storyline to me, but maybe I’m just underneath it.”

Based on the Marvel Comics character of the same name, Madame Web promises to deliver a fresh take on the superhero genre. Described by Sony Pictures as a “suspense-driven thriller,” the film follows Cassandra Webb, portrayed by Johnson, a paramedic in Manhattan who gains the ability to foresee the future and endeavours to alter it. As she grapples with revelations from her past, Webb forms alliances with three young women destined for greatness, provided they survive the perils of the present.

In addition to Johnson’s starring role, Madame Web boasts a talented ensemble cast, including Sydney Sweeney as Julia Carpenter/Spider-Woman, Celeste O’Connor as Mattie Franklin/Spider-Woman and Isabela Merced as Anya Corazon/Spider-Woman. Tahar Rahim takes on the role of Ezekiel Sims, the film’s main antagonist, with Mike Epps, Adam Scott, Emma Roberts, and Zosia Mamet rounding out the cast in undisclosed roles.
