Amitabh Bachchan shares a five-year difference with his younger brother, Ajitabh Bachchan. While Amitabh went on to become a superstar, Ajitabh chose to pursue a career in the business world. But long before they became icons in their respective fields, Big B was known to be a good brother to Ajitabh and even introduced him to his wife Ramola Bachchan. In an old interview, Ramola revealed that she and Amitabh ran in the same friends circle and through common friends, they met. He then introduced her to Ajitabh.
Speaking with Rediff in 2002, Ramola said she met Amitabh when he was working in Kolkata. “My friendship with Amitabh goes back to before he or I got married and even before I met Ajitabh. Amitabh was working in Kolkata in his pre-film days. We moved in the same circle and were very good friends. It was through him that I met Ajitabh,” she said.
“It was pure friendship. This was in the 1960s before he had thought of joining the films. I think he had a secret yearning for films, but it was not prominent then,” she added. Ajitabh and Ramola got married in the same year as Amitabh got married to Jaya Bachchan. A photo from their wedding had gone viral. Check out the photo below:
Ajitabh has three children from the marriage. Amitabh had once revealed in an episode of Kaun Banega Crorepati that Ajitabh was the one who planted the idea of exploring a career in acting. “(Ajitabh said) Dekho tumhe filmo me jaana chaiye (You should join films).”
“Humlog naukri kar rahe the Kolkata mein, unhone hamari tasveer li or bhej diya ek contest me (We used to work in Kolkata. He took my pictures and sent them to a contest),” he added. Amitabh revealed he was rejected in the contest but the plant to pursue acting had already started growing.
