Ten years ago, Emraan Hashmi spiced up Koffee with Karan with his rapid-fire antics, and those answers still come back to haunt him in recent interviews. Emraan has often explained that his comments were mostly jokes, but a few comments like comparing Aishwarya Rai to plastic had irked fans. In a recent chat with Fever FM, he admitted he gave those answers “just to give Bhatt saab a lesson” referring to Mahesh Bhatt, who was also on that memorable episode.
“It was all for the hamper,” Emraan said. He reminisced about his rapid-fire round, revealing that after filming, the team cut the shot and had a 10-minute debate about whether they could even air it. “I did it and they cut the shot after the rapid fire and they had a discussion for 10 minutes, ‘Can we actually air this?’ But they said ‘yeah, lets go ahead and air this’.”
When the interviewer hinted that his bold answers were due to his younger self, Emraan said,
“No, no. It was all in jest and it was all to win the hamper. I absolutely love and respect every person I kind of dissed out over there. It was to teach Bhatt saab a lesson. I mean he was so arrogant and cocky before that. He said that you don’t stand a chance in this rapid fire, said I’ll show you who’s boss and I just let it rip.”
Emraan Hashmi said that if one asks him the same questions today, he will give the exact same answers. “I’ll give you even more fierce answers. It’s just the interviews these days have become so… it’s become very controlled and its a lot of who is going to say what and what are they going to say on social media and let’s just keep it straight and safe. But if you steer to that wild side of me, it will flow. It’s still there, you just have to awaken it and I will just go for the kill,” he said.
