One of the biggest fashion nights, the 2024 Met Gala will commence on Monday, May 6 celebrating the institute’s new exhibition, ‘Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion’. The exhibit will feature approximately 250 items from the permanent collection, rarely seen in public before. While Hollywood A-listers Zendaya, Bad Bunny, Jennifer Lopez, and Chris Hemsworth will co-chair the event, the red carpet is also expected to be a star-studded gathering. The festival and the media will share exclusive visuals; however, mobile phones are famously not allowed inside the event.
This, however, brings a big question with many wondering about the reason why inside pictures and selfies remain mysteriously banned at the biggest fashion night. Notably, this is one of the many rules that the guests are expected to follow if they want to remain in Anna Wintour’s good books.
Why are phones banned at the Met Gala?
Back in 2015, it was reported that a ban had been put on the use of social media at the event to clamp down on the guests spending most of their time on their phones. “The use of phones for photography and social media will not be permitted inside the gala,” a notice was sent to all guests as quoted by the Independent. While this remains an absolute rule for everyone, guests were seen flouting the rule in the past, including beauty mogul Kylie Jenner taking a bathroom selfie in 2017.

Apart from that, there are also a few other absolute rules that are to be
followed without fail. These include entry restrictions on anyone under the age of 18, a ban on smoking inside the museum, food items with onion garlic or parsley banned from the menu, and strict seating arrangements, among other things.
Met Gala 2024
Celebrities from the land of film, fashion, music, sports, social media, and politics will ascend the steps of the Metropolitan Museum of Art on the first Monday of May to soak in the new exhibition this year.
While the theme of the Met Gala refers to the title of the exhibit, it is accompanied by a dress code which is ‘The Garden of Time’. Many including A$AP Rocky, Tom Holland, Lily Gladstone, Kendall Jenner, Uma Thurman, Sarah Paulson, and Olivia Rodrigo are expected to grace the event.
