There is something about psychological thriller films. It leaves the viewers guessing and drives them to the edge of their seats. There are many horror and thriller flicks on the OTT platform, but one film that is most definitely not for the faint-hearted is the 2020 Hollywood thriller, Alone, directed by John Hyams. If a cat and a mouse chase is up your alley, then bookmark this film.

Alone was released on September 18, 2020, and received much acclaim and praise for its storytelling. The film is headlined by Jules Willcox’s character, Jessica, a young woman who desperately tries to escape a deranged and bloodthirsty psychopath, named Sam in a forest.

The film shows just three characters and with every passing scene, it keeps getting excited. People who have seen the film have been appreciating and recommending others to watch it. There are a few thrilling moments in the film, which will make you hold your breath.

Sometime after Jessica’s husband dies by suicide, she decides to go on a road trip. The widow ends up running into a driver who quickly begins to stalk her and then kidnap her. At first, she makes a great attempt to escape being his captive, but soon she finds the stalker back on her trail. It shows the hunter and the hunted trope but builds an excellent tension. The audience enjoyed the cinematography which added to the forebodingness.

The audience was glued to the screen as it left them curious if Jessica would make out of it alive or not, despite her back-to-back bad luck and multiple injuries she sustained, including a gunshot.

Upon its release, Alone grossed $182,473 (Rs 1.52 crore) from 173 theatres right in its opening weekend. It was also the most-rented film on Google Play and ranked ninth on Apple TV. The film ranked in Netflix’s global top 10 chart in 2024 for March 11 to 17. The film emerged to be a huge hit and its box office collection was $642,502 (Rs 5.36 crore).
