Not Thalapathy Vijay, But This Actor Was The First Choice For Thulladha Manamum Thullum
In 1999, when Thulladha Manamum Thullum was released, four other Murali films were also released in theatres. But none of them were able to impress the audience.

Thalapathy Vijay, a South Indian film icon with an impressive career, rose to fame with a multitude of blockbuster movies. Among his notable works, Thulladha Manamum Thullum holds a special place, directed by Ezhil and co-starring Simran. However, recent revelations suggest that Vijay wasn’t the initial choice for the lead role.

Reports indicate that the role was originally offered to Tamil actor Murali, a popular figure in the 90s known for several successful films. The project, initially titled Rukmanikaga by director Ezhil, underwent a name change to Thulladah Manamum Thullum at the behest of the film’s producer, RB Choudary. While Murali was initially recommended for the hero’s part, circumstances prevented him from taking on the role. Subsequently, RB Choudary shared the story with Vijay, who expressed keen interest in the script but with a request for only two fight scenes.

Simran, Vijay’s co-star in the film, was not the original choice for the female lead; initially, actress Ramba was selected, but due to unforeseen circumstances, she couldn’t participate. The movie marked a significant turning point in Vijay’s career and gained immense popularity upon its release in 1999. Vijay’s stellar performance, coupled with the film’s engaging storyline, propelled him to stardom and earned him widespread acclaim.

Thulladha Manamum Thullum went on to become a massive hit, prompting remakes in multiple languages, including Telugu, Kannada, Hindi, Odia and Bengali. Its success further solidified Vijay’s position as a leading actor in the film industry. Vijay’s contribution to the industry, especially with iconic movies like Thulladha Manamum Thullum, is a prime example of his versatility and enduring popularity.

Vijay recently announced his political venture. Launching his political party, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam, he is set to contest in the upcoming 2026 Tamil Nadu assembly polls. This decision has created waves in the entertainment industry, as fans and colleagues await his political journey while reminiscing about his illustrious film career.
