Sonakshi Sinha Says She Was ‘Always Clear’ About Wearing Her Mother’s Saree On Wedding Day

Sonakshi Sinha and Zaheer Iqbal’s dreamy yet intimate marriage made headlines for several reasons. One of them was the bride’s outfit. For a quick recap, Sonakshi chose to re-wear her mother Poonam Sinha’s wedding saree on her big day. She even paired her bridal ensemble with her mom’s jewellery. The actress looked absolutely stunning in an off-white saree with intricate thread detailing and matching pearl and diamond jewellery.

Reflecting on her special day, Sonakshi Sinha recently shared why she chose to wear her mother’s saree. “I was very clear in my head that for my actual signing and the wedding, I wanted to wear my mother’s saree and her jewellery, which is exactly what I did. It was all in my head and we just brought it to life on that day,” Sonakshi told reporters at Hyundai FDCI India Couture Week.

Emphasising the trend of a “simpler but beautiful bride,” Sonakshi Sinha shared, “It took us five minutes to choose our outfits.” She also mentioned that her comfortable attire allowed her to fully enjoy her special day. “A simpler but very beautiful bride… That’s going to be a forthcoming trend,” she concluded.

Although Sonakshi Sinha was the centre of attention at her wedding, her husband Zaheer Iqbal also made a striking impression. The groom complemented the bride perfectly in an ivory-hued embroidered kurta-pajama for the signing ceremony. Sonakshi shared how his outfit was chosen: “We went to his friend, who is a designer, and he saw one outfit and said, ‘Oh, I will wear this.’ We are not that fussy.”

After dating for several years, Sonakshi Sinha and Zaheer Iqbal exchanged vows on July 23. Following their wedding, the couple shared a joint post saying, “On this very day, seven years back (23.06.2017) in each others eyes, we saw love in its purest form and decided to hold on to it. Today that love has guided us through all the challenges and triumphs… leading up to this moment… where with the blessings of both our families and both our gods… we are now man and wife.”

They added, “Here’s to love, hope and all things beautiful with each other, from now until forever.”

Soon after their wedding, Sonakshi Sinha and Zaheer Iqbal jetted off on their honeymoon to the Philippines.
