Tanishaa Mukerji is currently entertaining the audience with consecutive outstanding performances on the dance reality show Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa 11. Her exceptional acts on the show have not only mesmerised the viewers but also earned praise from the judges, including Arshad Warsi, Farah Khan, and Malaika Arora. Despite being the daughter of renowned star Tanuja and the sister of Kajol, Tanishaa faced challenges in her Bollywood career. She made her acting debut in the 2003 multi-starrer film Sssshhh, but her breakthrough came in 2005 with the lead role in Yash Raj Films’ Neal N Nikki, opposite Uday Chopra. Unfortunately, the film received mixed reviews. Interestingly, Tanishaa’s sister, Kajol, has not watched the movie, possibly due to its mixed reception and the abundance of kissing scenes.
In conversation with Siddharth Kannan, Tanishaa Mukerji said, “It was too much kissing on-screen. My sister has not watched the film until today. Even I tell my friend’s kids to watch it after growing up a little bit. That conservativeness exists in our country.”
However, the actress acknowledged that if offered a similar film in today’s time, she would approach it differently. Reflecting on her past role, Tanishaa remarked, “You are influencing young minds. At that time, I didn’t get involved in it enough.” The romantic comedy Neal ‘n’ Nikki, directed by Arjun Sablok, revolved around a young woman attempting to reconcile with her ex-boyfriend only to break up with him again.
On being asked if she was comfortable doing intimate scenes for the film, Tanishaa mentioned that with Uday Chopra, it was easier since they were dating during the shoot. Reportedly, Uday and Tanishaa first met on the sets of Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge, a film starring Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol. Tanishaa visited the set with her sister Kajol, and Uday was assisting his brother, the director Aditya Chopra.
In the same interview, Tanishaa also shared that even though her career did not take a positive turn, her brother-in-law, Ajay Devgn, helped her. After she was out of work for about 2–3 years, the actress said, “Ajay got me a secretary. At that time, there were secretaries. KS Sanjay was fixed as my secretary by Ajay.”
Tanishaa has been part of popular films like Tango Charlie, Sarkar, and Sarkar Raj. Before Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa 11, the actress participated in other reality shows like Bigg Boss 7 and Khatron Ke Khiladi 7.
