Uncle Samsik, starring Song Kang Ho in the lead alongside Byun Yo-han tells the tale of two individuals with contrasting personalities.

Song Kang Ho, better known for his impeccable performance in the 2019 Academy Award-winning film Parasite, will soon be making his television debut. The actor is geared up to play the role of Uncle Samsik in the upcoming drama series of the same title. Directed by Shin Yeon-shick, Uncle Samsik is scheduled to hit the OTT platform Disney Plus on May 15. Also starring Jin Ki-joo, Seo Hyun-woo, Byun Yo-han and Lee Kyu-hyung in important roles, the teaser trailer of the much-anticipated thriller drama was dropped by Disney Plus on April 15, grabbing the eyeballs of the masses.

May 15th, only on Disney Plus," read the Instagram caption. Uncle Samsik is set against the backdrop of the 1960s in Korea. Byun Yo-han essays the character of Kim San, an ambitious individual who is motivated by the endeavour to change his country’s fortune. Kim San, who received an Albright Scholarship wishes to transform Korea into an industrial nation, delivering an American-like affluential lifestyle to Korean citizens.

Driven by the goal, Kim San has a chance encounter with a “shady fixer" Pak Doochill aka Uncle Samsik. Samsik is a highly-adaptable person, who can make adjustments as the situation demands. He is ready to go to any length to help Kim San accomplish his motto. Although Kim San and Uncle Samsik have contrasting personalities, they form an uncanny alliance, coursing through the intricacies of the established system. Their common ideology is aiming for a prosperous future.

Uncle Samsik promises to be an edge-of-the-seat ride with ample mysteries, secrets, and twists and turns. There are also implications of violence and tense scenes, underlining a looming uncertainty. As soon as the teaser trailer was released, viewers reacted to it favourably. “It looks good," noted one person. “I’ll wait for Samsik and Song Kang-ho," agreed another. Others reacted with fire and clapping hand emojis.

Uncle Samsik will comprise sixteen episodes, and the first five will be released on May 15. A three-part final episode will be unveiled on the streaming service on June 19. The show will also premiere on Hulu in the United States.
