Vidhu Vinod Chopra Reveals His Wife Asked Him To Put 12th Fail On OTT: 'Teri Aur Vikrant Ki Film...'
Adapted from Anurag Pathak's book, 12th Fail tells the story of Manoj Kumar Sharma, who rose from extreme poverty to become an IPS officer.

On Saturday, filmmaker Vidhu Vinod Chopra celebrated as his latest film, 12th Fail, clocked 100 days in the theatres, even though it’s also available on OTT. The cast and crew gathered to reflect on the film’s journey and chanted its theme: restart.

Adapted from Anurag Pathak’s book, 12th Fail tells the story of Manoj Kumar Sharma, who rose from extreme poverty to become an IPS officer. The film focuses on his struggles and highlights the crucial role played by his wife, IRS officer Shraddha Joshi.

Vikrant Massey played Manoj and Medha Shankar portrayed Shraddha. During a special event celebrating the film’s success, Vidhu Vinod Chopra discussed the movie’s impact with Vikrant 100 days after its release.

“100 days ago, in this very screen, we had our first show. When we talk about numbers, Rs 100 cr, now there’s Rs 500 cr, Rs 1,000 cr, Rs 2,000 cr, but to me it boils down to one thing. What is your intention? Why are you making that film? You make an honest film and it can reach those numbers. When I was making the film, I was told by everyone, including my dearest wife (film critic Anupama Chopra), to put it out on OTT! She said, ‘Nobody will go to see Vinod! Teri aur Vikrant ki film!’ She told me I don’t know, that I’m not connected with movies (anymore). On top of this, these (trade) agencies were writing that it’ll open at Rs 2 lakhs and do a lifetime business of Rs 30 lakhs! Everyone scared me,” the filmmaker shared.

Not long back, taking to social media to share a photo of himself posing with reel-life Manoj, Vikrant Massey, Manoj Sharma wrote, “Jab ek Manoj dusre Manoj ko apni Filmfare trophy dikhaane laata hai, tab uss par aur bhi pyaar aata hai (When one Manoj brings his Filmfare trophy to show another Manoj, then the love for him increases).” Re-sharing the photo on his Instagram story, the actor referred to the IPS office as the “asli hero (real hero).”

What's your reaction?
