In an era where Indian television is over-shadowed by dramatic daily soaps, saas-bahu flicks; any show of different genre is a breath of fresh air and when shows like ‘CID’, ‘FIR’ go well with the audience, it’s like a cherry on the cake. Manish Singh, who’s a known name in the TV fraternity for his brilliant screenwriting in shows like ‘CID’, ‘FIR’ and ‘HEROES’ recently added another feather to his cap.
Manish Singh’s directorial ‘Sucks’S story’ was officially selected for Los Angeles Cinefest in the ‘Short of the Month’ category and also as a nominee at the Shaan-E-Awadh International Film Festival in the best film, best story category. In a very realistic way, the film depicts the consequences of manipulated success stories that the middle class youth is gifted by the stars from the glamour world. Shot in the ‘maya-nagri’ Mumbai, the film beautifully portrays the fact that it’s easier to enter this world but not as easy to leave; there’s a never-ending struggle that accompanies you all through-out.
While talking to IBNLive.com about the present scenario of thriller/crime genre in our television industry, the director said that while we’re still short of the standard attained by than that of the west, there’s still a great improvement from previous days. He added, “… I see Indian TV and films are mostly made with the purpose of high TRP and Box Office collections. Trying to fix Western characters in Hindi shows only makes them look too weird on the screen". He also mentioned that the quality will only improve when people stop trying to follow or copy other shows.
Expressing desire to direct films featuring Shah Rukh Khan, Irrfan Khan and Nawazuddin Siddiqui, he also lauded films like ‘A Wednesday’, ‘Shahid’ and ‘Ugly’ in this genre for changing the Indian film scenario. The director is now busy working on his next short film ‘Season’s Greetings’ and his upcoming feature film ‘Motorcycle’.
