Nana Patekar and Dimple Kapadia’s epic blockbuster film Krantiveer turned 30 on Monday. One thing about this film is that the distributors did not want the film because of the lead actor but the matter was later settled after the director convinced them. The film was also rejected by two superstar actresses but despite these difficulties, the film became a blockbuster.
This film which was released in July 1994 created a lot of noise at the box office. The makers earned way more money than the original budget of the film. It was a crime drama starring Nana Patekar in the lead role. Dimple Kapadia, Atul Agnihotri, Mamta Kulkarni, Farida Jalal, Tinnu Anand and Danny Denzongpa also played supporting roles in the film. Also, Nana Patekar won the National Award for Best Actor for this film. The film won the hearts of the audience and proved to be a huge success at the box office.
Nana Patekar played the role of Pratap Narayan Tilak in Krantiveer. Danny Denzongpa, on the other hand, proved his talent in playing the villain on the big screen. Krantiveer is one of Nana Patekar’s most popular films to date.
According to IMDb, the role of Megha Dixit, played by Dimple Kapadia, was initially offered to Sridevi, but she turned it down. The role of Mamta, played by Mamta Kulkarni, was also initially offered to Kajol, but she too turned it down.
Krantiveer was the first mainstream commercial film in Nana Patekar’s career, which is why some distributors had initially backed out of the film. They said who would watch Nana Patekar? There is no other big star in this film. At that time, director Mehul Kumar assured the distributors that if the film did not do well at the box office, he would make up for the loss.
Then when Mehul Kumar showed the test screening of Krantiveer to the distributors, they agreed to go for the film. According to Box Office India, the makers had spent only Rs 2.25 crore on the production of Nana Patekar’s Krantiveer and the film grossed Rs 15.85 crore at the box office. Nana Patekar’s Krantiveer turned out to be the third-highest box office success of 1994.
