Deepika Padukone is grabbing all the headlines and for all the right reasons. From playing a drop dead gorgeous killer spy in Shah Rukh Khan starrer Pathaan to getting mushy with hubby Ranveer Singh on Koffee With Karan Season 8, the actress has managed to stay ahead of her contemporaries in all aspects. Taking all her successes into consideration, when she was asked in a recent interview whether she would like to shift bases, the actress said ‘No’ with utmost conviction.
Speaking with Vogue, Deepika Padukone made it clear that India is her home, “Why do I need to move with bag and baggage to have global impact? Early on in my modelling career, I had an offer to move overseas and all of the fashion gurus in India said, ‘You shouldn’t be here, you should be in Paris, New York or Milan,’ and I was like, ‘No, those places are not my home. India is home’,” the actress stated.
She also commented about the early phases of her career. Deepika shared, “When you were an outsider 15 or 20 years ago, there was no other option. It’s an uphill task for any individual trying to make a mark in a field or profession that their parents don’t come from. The fact that we’ve started to articulate things like nepotism is a new trend. It existed then, it exists now and it will continue to exist. That was my reality.”
The Jawan actress added, “Back then, I had so many things to deal with, not just professionally but also personally. I was a teenager moving to a new city with no family or friends in a new industry. I had to figure out my meals (a time before Swiggy or Zomato, mind you) and transport, and lug my own bags around. I never thought of it as a burden back then. I’d finish late at night, exhausted, then carry my suitcase across town in a cab and sometimes fall asleep on the drive back home. My mother would be so worried about whether I would get home safe. Today when I look back at that journey, I think, ‘Not bad, girl! You did this and you did it on your own.’ But at that moment, there was no time to reflect.”
Meanwhile, Deepika Padukone has also dropped jaws with her first look as the lady Singham in Singham 3. The actress plays the role Shakti Shetty in Rohit Shetty’s new cop film. The film is headlined by Ajay Devgn and also stars Ranveer Singh. The director released the first look on the occasion of the first day of Navratri.
Rohit confirmed Deepika will be joining the Singham and cop universe during the promotions of Cirkus last year. “We are making Singham next. Everyone kept asking me who is the lady cop in my universe. So today, let me confirm that Deepika Padukone will be the lady Singham, the lady cop in Singham 3. We start shooting next year,” Rohit Shetty said.
