Hillary Clinton Reacts To Margot Robbie And Greta Gerwig Oscar Snub
After Margot Robbie and Greta Gerwig’s Oscar snub, Hillary Clinton wrote, "You’re both so much more than Kenough.”

The 2024 Oscar nomination announcement on January 24 came as a surprise for fans of director Greta Gerwig’s Barbie. The film starred Margot Robbie as the titular character Barbie, while Ryan Gosling played the role of Ken. As per the nomination list, while Ryan Gosling was selected as an Oscar nominee, Margot Robbie and Greta Gerwig failed to make it to the shortlist. This ignited a heated online debate with many claiming that Margot and Greta deserved a Best Actress and Best Director nomination, respectively. Now, the Former US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton has come out in support of Barbie’s two leading women.

Reacting to Margot Robbie and Greta Gerwig’s Oscar snub for acting and directing honours, Hillary Clinton penned an encouraging message for them on X (formerly Twitter). “Greta & Margot, while it can sting to win the box office but not take home the gold, your millions of fans love you. You’re both so much more than Kenough,” she wrote. Adding the hashtag of Hillary Barbie, she once again underlined her supportive stance for the actress and the director.

Social media users wasted no time to comment on Hillary Clinton’s statement on Barbie. While one individual noted, “Let’s all Bar-be at the polls to protect democracy!” another quipped, “I love this so much. Why isn’t there a Hillary Clinton Barbie doll?” Agreeing with Hillary a third user wrote, “I ignore the Oscars for the most part. They have become irrelevant to me. Their judgment on the best movies, best actors, etc, while not totally ridiculous, shows such bias I don’t trust them.”

America Ferrara who played Gloria in Barbie expressed her disappointment in Margot Robbie and Greta Gerwig’s exclusion from the Oscar nomination list. In an interaction with Variety, she called it “disappointing” that Greta’s name was not on the list, especially because she did “about everything that a director could do to deserve it.” America also lauded Margot for fooling people “into thinking that the work seems easy,” when in reality playing Barbie was not so effortless.

Breaking his silence on the topic, Ryan Gosling in a statement said, “No recognition would be possible for anyone on the film without their talent, grit and genius. To say that I’m disappointed that they are not nominated in their respective categories would be an understatement,” Variety reported.

Barbie, a deft satire, revolved around the dangers of patriarchy and the difficulties women face in the work sphere, not getting recognition for their talents and being constantly stereotyped.
