Sharmila Tagore’s portrayal in the 1969 romantic drama Aradhana stands as one of her iconic performances. The film, which also starred Rajesh Khanna was widely loved by the audience. However, do you know that Sharmila Tagore was not the first choice for the movie? The veteran actress will be gracing the upcoming episode of Koffee With Karan Season 8 where she will be joined by her actor-son Saif Ali Khan. While everyone is eagerly waiting for the episode, it has now been reported that Sharmila made this shocking revelation about Aradhana during her chat with the host, Karan Johar.
“I chose Aradhana, rather fought for Aradhana,” she said, leaving Karan Johar shocked. When the host asked “Your image has been scarred?”, the veteran actress continued by saying, “No, He didn’t say that. He was very fond of me. But he felt that I was too young. Oh, and I won’t be able to do it. But Sachin will make the screenplay writer as a friend. He kind of said, Yes, I think we can do it. So there was much debate. And in any case, they were making a big film with Shami ji. Right. And with Shami Ji they were having problems with his dates. So this happened very quickly.”
When KJo further talked about the movie saying, “What a blockbuster. Oh my God. What a blockbuster,” Sharmila revealed, “It ran for 50 weeks.”
Meanwhile, on the work front, Sharmila Tagore was last seen in Gulmohar, which premiered on Disney+ Hotstar in March this year. Directed by Rahul Chittella, the film featured a cast including Manoj Bajpayee, Simran, and Suraj Sharma. Sharmila, known for her debut in Satyajit Ray’s Apur Sansar (1959), has worked in many Hindi classics such as Kashmir Ki Kali, Waqt, An Evening in Paris, Aranyer Din Ratri and more.
