Mumbai Traffic Advisory For Ganeshotsav: Curbs for Heavy Vehicles, Private Buses; 11K Cops Deployed

Mumbai Police on Monday announced traffic arrangements put in place to avoid congestion on roads during Ganeshotsav celebrations from September 19-29. More than 11,000 police personnel will be deployed in the city during the festival.

According to police, traffic restrictions will be in place in different parts of the city during Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations starting from September 19. However, there will be no curbs on vehicles supplying essential commodities.

“To avoid traffic congestion during Ganeshotsav celebrations during September 19th to 29th, following traffic arrangements have been done in Mumbai City. Citizens are requested to follow the revised traffic arrangements,” Mumbai police wrote in an X (formerly Twitter) post.

Traffic Arrangement in Mumbai During September 19-29

• According to the notification issued by the police, there shall be a complete restriction on the movement of all types of heavy vehicles and private buses in south Mumbai on September 21, 24, 26 and 29.
• On other days between September 19 and 29, heavy vehicles will be allowed in south Mumbai between midnight to 07:00 am.
• “For the jurisdiction of Greater Mumbai (Except for areas under the jurisdiction of South Mumbai), there shall be a complete restriction for all types of Heavy Vehicles and Private buses to enter and ply on roads from 11:00 hrs. to 01:00 hrs. of the next day on the 20, 23 and 25th of September, 2023. Further, there will also be a restriction on these vehicles to enter and ply on roads on 28th September, 2023, from 10:00 hrs to 06:00 hrs. of the next day. On other days, for the period between 19th to 29th September, 2023, all Heavy vehicles and private buses en and leaving Mumbai are restricted from entering and plying on roads from 08:00 hrs to 11:00 ht 17:00 hrs to 21:00 hrs,” a notification by the police said.
• However, essential service-providing vehicles such as those supplying vegetables, milk, bakery products, drinking water, petroleum products, ambulances, government and semi-government vehicles and school buses will be exempted from restrictions.
• All private buses entering and leaving the city and heavy vehicles including the ones exempted from curbs, shall only be parked at their privately owned spaces or rented spaces or on authorized pay lots, police further said, adding that parking of these vehicles on roads shall be totally prohibited.
• More than 2,000 officers (ACP to PSI) and 11,726 police staff will be deployed in the city during the celebrations.
