The Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) on Saturday started aggressive testing after 16 students of a school in Ghansoli tested positive of Covid-19. After the cluster outbreak, the corporation has tested 800 students from the school and are prepared to test entire strength in the coming days. The local Municipal Commissioner, Abhijeet Bhangar said, “So far 800 students of Shetkari Shikshan Sandhya School and Junior College in Ghansoli have been tested. We will test all students in the school. For others, we will arrange for testing at their residence. After testing positive, the patients’ high risk and low-risk contacts will also be tested.”
Meanwhile, the NMMC has shut Shetkari Shikshan Sanstha School and Junior College for seven days, and have reiterated all schools and education institutions in the area to adhere to the Covid protocols and guidelines strictly. School administration is in the process of starting offline classes for students from Classes 1-12.
NMMC Commissioner Bangar said, “the index patient’s father in the cluster outbreak has a travel history to Qatar. However he has tested negative for Covid-19. But the NMMC is taking no chances and have sent the samples of the index patient for genome sequencing for precaution.” He, however, said it is not yet established whether the index patient was infected by his father with travel history or from someone else.
A total of 44 people have tested positive for Covid-19 on Friday. Out of the total cases, 17 patients including 16 students were from Ghansoli. On Friday, the Mumbai circle reported 447 fresh cases, 53 of which were reported from Navi Mumbai.
