Following his final appearance in 2021’s No Time to Die, Daniel Craig has retired from his iconic James Bond role, leaving fans curious about his successor. In an unexpected twist, the suave spy is making his way to the small screen through Prime Video’s reality competition series, 007: Road to a Million, hosted by Succession star Brian Cox. The show is scheduled to premiere on November 10 and is sure to be brimming with references from the beloved film franchise.
Amid the buzz, a recent interview with producer Barbara Broccoli saw The Guardian inquire about the possibility of a Bond TV show spinoff. However, Broccoli dismissed the notion and clarified that their primary focus remains on crafting cinematic experiences for the larger-than-life character.
She said, “Our focus is making the feature films. When we get going on a Bond movie it takes our full attention for three or four years so that’s our focus. We make the Bond movies for the big theatrical screen and everything about the Bond movies is for audiences to see around the world on that format, so we’ve not wanted to do television.” Talking about the reality show, she claims that it has “same ethos of heroism, courage and fortitude we do in the movies. I think it’s really good entertainment and that’s what people need.”
Further describing 007: Road to a Million as “a nice fun thing,” Barbara Broccoli expressed hope that the show will be loved by James Bond fans. Broccoli, alongside her half-brother Michael G Wilson, played an active role in bringing the adventure series to life. The show will feature nine contestants who will undergo physical and psychological challenges in locations featured in the films, including the Scottish Highlands, Venice and Jamaica, along with the signature theme tune and other aspects. At the end, the winner will walk away with £1 million (approximately Rs 10 Crore) prize.
Michael mentioned that the fans of the Bond franchise will be able to discover hidden references and special details throughout the series. Barbara, on the other hand, expressed her hopes of creating versions of the reality series for different countries like Africa, India and Asia. She explained that while they haven’t reached that stage yet, they are eagerly waiting to see the response from the audience.
Talking about the film’s future, Barbara Broccoli said, “There’s a big, big road ahead reinventing it for the next chapter and we haven’t even begun with that.”
Following Daniel Craig’s departure from the James Bond film series, fans have been eagerly awaiting news about his successor. While several names like Henry Cavill, Aaron Taylor Johnson, Tom Hardy and Idris Elba have circulated as potential contenders to carry on the legacy, no official confirmation has been made by the makers.
