David Beckham On His First Visit To India During World Cup 2023: 'Electric, Passionate And Incredible'
David Beckham speaks about the incredible atmosphere during the IND vs NZ World Cup semifinal, praises Sachin Tendulkar and reveals whether he'd been a batter or a bowler if he played cricket.

Football icon David Beckham was taken aback by the incredible atmosphere at the Wankhede Stadium during India’s match against New Zealand. India took down the Black Caps in an epic semi-final clash of the 2023 World Cup, thanks to outstanding performances by Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer and Mohammed Shami. A multitude of stars were in attendance for the highly-anticipated game, including the English legend. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) uploaded a video of an interview with Beckham on their website about his visit to the host nation.

The video was uploaded with a caption that read, “Answer it like David Beckham, From witnessing an electrifying atmosphere at Wankhede to meeting the legendary Sachin Tendulkar David Beckham describes it all.”

This was the first time that David Beckham made a trip to India. Hence, BCCI decided to enquire the English star about the experience of his first-ever visit to the country. When asked about the atmosphere at the iconic Wankhede Stadium during India’s semi-final game against New Zealand, Beckham described it as “electric, passionate, and incredible.”

During the interview, Beckham also reminisced about his school days when he actively played cricket. He revealed that, given the choice, he saw himself more as a batter in the sport. While describing his experience in India, Beckham said that he had an ‘incredible’ time in the country so far. The former footballer also added that he couldn’t believe that it took him so long to finally make a trip to the country. “But now I’m here and I can’t wait to come back”, he added.

David Beckham has been representing UNICEF and promoting their development programs during his current trip. The icon has been busy visiting several cities in Gujarat, talking and interacting with multiple children. “I think the whole experience from the people, the children, the food, the energy here in the stadium and being here for Diwali and the New Year and the Cricket World Cup, it couldn’t have been any more perfect,” Beckham added.

Sachin Tendulkar has also been a major part of UNICEF’s campaign in India. In the same video, Beckham could be seen thanking the cricket legend for being a wonderful host. “Firstly, He’s the best. He’s the best, but as a person he’s also even better. So for me to spend some time with him in his house was very special,” he concluded.

India’s historic 70-run win over New Zealand will see them play their fourth-ever World Cup final. They will be playing the winner of the Australia versus South Africa clash at the Narendra Modi Stadium on November 19. The Men in Blue already won the competition at home once in 2011. It will be interesting to see if they can achieve the same this time in Ahmedabad.
