The carcass of a leopard was found lying on NH44 near Khatushyam Mandir in the Alipur police station area in Delhi. The corpse was found after the Police Control Room (PCR) received a call at 4 am on Wednesday about the same.

After receiving the call, the police team reached the spot and found a dead leopard, which according to initial probe, appeared to be a case of traffic accident.

The carcass of the animal has been taken into the custody and the Forest department has said that further necessary actions are being taken.

In another incident, a leopard entered a hospital in the Nandurbar Taluka in Maharashtra’s Shahada on Tuesday. However, the leopard was later rescued by Forest department team.

On December 10, a leopard was run over by a goods train on the outskirts of Gujarat’s Surat. The forest department was alerted about the incident in the early hours of the day, and the carcass was recovered.

The leopard’s carcass was sent for post-mortem, said divisional forest officer (DFO) Anand Kumar.

He also noted that leopard sightings are rare in the Amroli area of Surat city, where the incident occurred. However, the big cats find their way into the locality from the south Gujarat forests.

Just a few days ago, panic gripped the streets of a residential colony on Pankhowal road in Punjab’s Ludhiana when a leopard was spotted walking around the colony.

The incident was captured on CCTV cameras installed inside the Centra Greens colony.

The residents immediately informed the police about the leopard sighting, after which two teams of the Forest department were deployed with cages, said district foresty and wildlife officer Prithipal Singh said.

Singh added that it was not clear that how the leopard reached here.

On December 8, a leopardess that was caged in Maharashtra’s Nashik after it strayed close to a village earlier that week, gave birth to four cubs, an official said.

It may be the first incident of its kind in the district when a wild cat has given birth immediately after being caged, he added.
