Five days after 21-year-old Shubhkaran Singh died during the farmers’ protests at Shambhu, the post-mortem of the body is still pending. Farmers have rejected the Punjab government’s job and Rs 1 crore cash offer to the youth’s family.
According to sources, farmers in large numbers have reached Patiala’s Rajindra Hospital. They rejected Punjab chief minister Bhagwant Mann’s offer of a government job to Shubhkaran’s sister and Rs 1 crore cash to the family.
Sources said the farmers have also demanded an FIR to be registered against the Haryana police, while the Punjab police is also under pressure and are going in for a legal opinion. Senior police officials from Punjab visited Khanauri border to understand the circumstances under which Shubhkaran died, they added.
Shubhkaran was killed as clashes broke out between farmers and the police on February 21. The Haryana police, however, has maintained that no bullet was fired during the protests as is being claimed. Doctors at Rajindra Hospital have said Shubhkaran succumbed to a head injury.
