A 10-year-old boy was killed in a monkey attack in Gujarat’s Gandhinagar district. The child’s intestine was ripped out in the attack and he was rushed to a hospital where doctors declared him dead on arrival, said police and forest officials.
The incident took place on November 13 near a temple at Salki village in Dehgam taluka. Police identified the child as Dipak Thakor, who was playing with friends when he was terrorised by a troop of monkeys. According to reports, the monkeys jumped onto the boy and punctured his skin before digging their claws inside.
An official said this is the third attack by monkeys in the village within a week. “We have rescued two langurs in the last one week, and set up cages to trap another langur. There is a large troop of monkeys in the village, including four adults, who have been involved in attacks in the last one week. Two of them have been rescued. Efforts are on to cage another,” said forest official Vishal Chaudhary.
There have been other such attacks by monkeys in different parts of India. In Rajgarh town of Madhya Pradesh, a monkey with a Rs 21,000-reward on its head was caught after it attacked 20 people in a matter of two weeks. A drone was used to locate the animal while rescue workers managed to tranquilise it using darts and then caged it.
