The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Friday predicted that a fresh Western Disturbance is set to impact the Western Himalayan Region till February 25, with isolated light rainfall and snowfall expected.

From February 26-27, scattered to fairly widespread light to moderate rainfall/snowfall accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning is likely over Jammu-Kashmir-Ladakh-Gilgit-Baltistan-Muzaffarabad, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand, IMD said in a press release.

Jet stream winds, reaching speeds of up to 145 knots, prevail over northeast India, with high moisture incursion from the Bay of Bengal expected. This will result in scattered to fairly widespread light/moderate rainfall/snowfall with thunderstorms and lightning over Arunachal Pradesh, Sikkim, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura till February 25.

A cyclonic circulation over south Telangana and a trough extending to south Tamil Nadu, along with another cyclonic circulation over south Chhattisgarh, will bring isolated light to moderate rainfall over West Bengal, Odisha, and Jharkhand till February 27.

Scattered to fairly widespread rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning with gusty winds is expected over Chhattisgarh, Vidarbha, and Madhya Pradesh on February 26-27, with isolated hailstorm activity likely in Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, and Jharkhand on February 26.

Hot and humid weather is anticipated over Rayalaseema on February 23 and over Kerala on February 23-24. Minimum temperatures are expected to remain largely unchanged over Northwest and Central India for the next 2 days, followed by a rise of 2-3 °C thereafter. The IMD said no significant change in minimum temperatures is expected over the rest of the country for the next five days.
