A key Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) commander, Akram Ghazi, was gunned down in northwest Pakistan. This is the second such assassination of a key operative from the terror outfit this month. Akram Khan alias Ghazi, who was killed by unidentified men in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, was one of the top recruiters for the group between 2018 and 2020, according to media reports.

He was also responsible for radicalising terrorists who infiltrated the Kashmir Valley, The Times of India (TOI) reported, citing sources. “Ghazi was a key member of Lashkar’s central recruitment cell and known for his hate-filled speeches against India,” a source told TOI. He was shot dead by bike-borne men in Khyber’s Bajaur district, located in the country’s northwest region along the border with Afghanistan.

Akram’s killing comes days after another LeT commander Khwaja Shahid was abducted and later found beheaded near the Line of Control in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) on Sunday. Khwaja was one of the masterminds of the 2018 Sunjwan terror attack in J&K.

Earlier in September, LeT commander Riyaz Ahmed was killed outside a mosque in PoK’s Rawalakot. Riyaz was reportedly responsible for LeT’s recruitment in PoK. LeT, an internationally banned group, has been linked to several terrorist attacks over the years. This series of purported assassinations is a setback for the Pakistani security establishment, as these operatives of groups like LeT are used against India.
