During the third Test in Rajkot, Jaiswal played a 214-run knock which helped the hosts register hand England their biggest Test defeat since 1934. The opening batter hammered 12 sixes in India’s second essay, matching former Pakistan captain Wasim Akram’s world record.

Akram achieved this feat in 1996 in a Test match against Zimbabwe at Sheikhupura Stadium. The former skipper scored an unbeaten on 257 off 363 balls, powering his team to 553 in the 1st innings. But the visitors managed to save the game which ended in a draw.

Recalling the incident, Akram said it wasn’t easy for him to get those many runs as Pakistan were 6 wickets down when he walked out to bat.

“My record (most sixes in an innings) wasn’t broken, it’s been equalled by Yashasvi Jaiswal. People talk a lot that it was Zimbabwe, but it wasn’t that easy. I remember we were around 170/6 when I went to bat,” Akram told A Sports.

Speaking of Jaiswal’s records, he has become the first Indian batter to convert his first three Test tons into 150-plus scores. He is also the third youngest player to score two double tons in the longest format.

Jaiswal also went past the Indian record of eight sixes, previously held jointly by Mayank Agarwal and Navjot Singh Sidhu, to set a new milestone. So far, he has smashed 22 maximums which is now the highest to have achieved by any batter in a Test series. Furthermore, the Indian batters overall hit 28 sixes in Rajkot, setting a new record for the most number of sixes by any team in a Test match.
