The ongoing five-match T20I series between India and Australia has been quite harsh on the bowlers. Five out of the six innings in the first contests have seen a team rack up 200-plus totals with Australia’s 191/9 being the lowest.
Bowlers have been running for covers in Vizag, Trivandrum and Guwahati – the three venues of the opening three matches.
India fast bowler Prasidh Krishna has been copping plenty of punishment from the batters, proving to be quite expensive with an economy of 13.25 so far.
In the third T20I, chasing 223, Australia were left needing 21 from the final over and it was left to Krishna to do the job with the ball soaking wet thanks to the heavy dew in the night.
Australian batters took advantage of the conditions. Captain Matthew Wade struck a four before handing over the strike to Maxwell who responded with a six followed by a hat-trick of fours to complete the chase.
Krishna finished with figures of 0/68 from four overs. Not that his fellow bowlers did any good with only Ravi Bishnoi proving effective having managed an economy of 8.
Former India fast bowler Ashish Nehra though has backed the 27-year-old Krishna citing the lack of cricket considering he made his international comeback in August this year following a long injury layoff.
“You are talking about a guy who has not played much cricket. But there’s no shortage of talent when you talk of someone like Prasidh Krishna. He’s definitely one of India’s future stars and let’s hope that from here he’s only going to get better,” Nehra said on JioCinema.
“He’s (Krishna) someone who can bowl a good yorker. I know it’s difficult to bowl on a wet ground and a flat pitch, but in these kinds of situations, you definitely back your yorker,” he added.
With Mukesh Kumar back in the squad after a short break, India may bench Krishna for the fourth T20I to be played tonight in Raipur.
