'Rohit Sharma's Best Move Was to Ask DJ to Not Play Dil, Dil Pakistan': Michael Vaughan Takes a Savage Dig at Mickey Arthur
Michael Vaughan took a dig at Pakistan cricket team's technical director Mickey Arthur for his remarks after the team's crushing defeat to India in Ahmedabad.

A sea of blue greeted India and Pakistan when the two old rivals met at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad last week for their ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 contest. Amidst the deafening noise, Rohit Sharma’s men outclassed Pakistan for a seven-wicket win in what turned out to be a one-sided match.

After the match, Pakistan team director Mickey Arthur lamented the partisan atmosphere at the venue which is the largest cricket stadium by capacity in the world.

Arthur said, “It didn’t seem like an ICC event to be brutally honest. It seemed like a bilateral series; it seemed like a BCCI event. I didn’t hear Dil Dil Pakistan coming through the microphones too often tonight.”

Arthur was criticised for his remarks and now former England captain Michael Vaughan has taken a dig at the South African, saying the best move that India captain Rohit pulled off during the match was asking the DJ to not play ‘Dil Dil Pakistan‘.

Vaughan made the comments during a podcast that also featured Australia legend Adam Gilchrist who was left smiling upon hearing his former Ashes rival’s analysis that was laced with sarcasm.

“Gilly, you are absolutely spot on about Rohit,” Vaughan said. “His tactical awareness out in the middle, just managing the players, as you mentioned (Mohammed) Siraj, giving him an extra over just to give him a boost.”

“But his best move without doubt, the move that won the game and the Pakistan coach alluded to it afterwards, is Rohit obviously said to the DJ, just do not play ‘Dil, Dil, Pakistan’. If you play, Pakistan will win. Do not play that song. Make sure that they don’t hear that inspirational song. That was clever from Rohit. Most captains don’t think about things like that – DJs, music. Rohit is ahead of his time,” Vaughan added.

India continued their ODI world cup supremacy over Pakistan, extending their streak of never losing to their rivals at the event to eight meetings.
