Premier South Africa batter Aiden Markram took the world by story by smashing the fastest century in ODI World Cup history against Sri Lanka on Saturday. Markram lit up the revamped Arun Jaitley Stadium by hitting a 49-ball century to break Kevin Obrien’s 12-year-old record.

Markram reached the mark with a magnificent six over deep square leg to register the massive record on his name. The talented batter came at number 4 spot and didn’t take much time to get settled as he smashed the Lankan bowlers all around the park with his effortless shot-making.

He broke Ireland’s Kevin O’Brien’s 12-year-old which he made in 2011 World Cup match against England in Bengaluru.

He displayed his class once again and showed the world why he is rated highly in South African cricket.

The 28-year-old was eventually dismissed for 106 as South Africa sailed past the 400-run mark.

Rassie van der Dussen (108) and Quinton de Kock (100) also hit centuries in the first World Cup match to feature three tons in the same innings.
