Union Education Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal ‘Nishank’ has recently announced to link the Online Teacher Pupil Registration Management System (OTPRMS) Certificates with DigiLocker . The move aims to provide hassle-free access of certificates to learners.
Once issued, certificates are automatically transferred to DigiLocker. This facility is not just available for OTPRMS but also several organisations including CBSE, CISCE among others. CBSE releases mark sheets for board exams and CTET eligibility certificates through DigiLocker.
What is Digilocker?
DigiLocker is a digital platform under the Digital India initiative which aims to go paperless. It provides an account in the cloud to every Aadhaar cardholder to access their important documents or certificates including driving license, vehicle registration, academic certificates in digital format. All citizens including students can avail this facility by registering themselves at digilocker.gov.in by using their Aadhar card.
How to create a DigiLocker?
Step 1: Visit the official website of DigiLocker at digilocker.gov.in
Step 2: Click on the link reading, ‘Register for DigiLocker’
Step 3: Enter a valid mobile number and click on the ‘Continue’
Step 4: An OTP will be sent to the registered mobile number, use that OTP to verify your number
Step 5: Set your username and password to sign up. Keep the username and password safely for subsequent logins
Step 6: Now enter your 12 digit Aadhar number
Step 7: Choose any of the signup options
Step 8: Sign in using your registered user name and password to save your documents in DigiLocker
Who uses DigiLocker?
As of March 15, over 58.66 million people have registered with DigiLocker and have been issued over 4.27 billion authentic documents. A total of 491 documents are part of DigiLocker of which the most available document is Aadhaar card. It has been searched or issued 1,22,91,92,140 times, as of March 15.
Class 10 and class 12 mark sheets are among the most popular documents at DigiLocker with as many as 11,10,48,070 class 10 and 7,99,50,171 class 12 mark sheets available at the platform.
Is DigiLocker Secure?
DigiLocker platform claims to follow standard security procedures. Every release is reviewed and tested internally for security and penetration vulnerabilities before getting deployed on servers, as per the platform. DigiLocker uses mobile authentication-based signup via OTP (one-time password) for authenticating users and allowing access to the platform. DigiLocker audited by recognized audit agencies and the application security audit certificate is obtained at regular intervals. It also has a time limit set for each session a user operates on the platform.
