World Cup 2023: Virat Kohli Creates Record By Spending More Than 14 Hours at the Crease
Virat Kohli has created a new record by spending more than 14 hours at the crease during ODI World Cup 2023, with Rohit Sharma also featuring on the list.

Indian batters look invincible in this World Cup with Virat Kohli spearheading the attack, having already reached 500 runs in the tournament, featuring in eight matches. Apart from his classical batting, Kohli has garnered immense praise for his intent shown in the previous knocks.

Whenever India needed someone to step up in a crunch situation, Kohli was there to take on the responsibility, showing off his grit and composure. A fan has recently made an astonishing revelation about Kohli on X. According to the user, Kohli has spent 14 hours and 39 minutes at the crease during this World Cup and it is a new record.

As per several media reports, the next three positions on the list are also occupied by Indian batters. Captain Rohit Sharma comes next, having batted for 8 hours and 23 minutes across matches. Among others, KL Rahul has spent 7 hours and 20 minutes, while Shreyas Iyer and Shubman Gill have stayed at the crease for 6 hours and 29 minutes, and 5 hours and 52 minutes respectively.

It has certainly been a memorable World Cup for Virat Kohli. He is only the third Indian batter to score over 500 runs in a single edition of the global showpiece. Legend Sachin Tendulkar and skipper Rohit Sharma had earlier achieved the feat. While Tendulkar made it possible two times in 1996 and 2003, Rohit scripted the record during the last World Cup in 2019 in England.

Kohli joined Tendulkar and Rohit in the elite league during his centurion knock against South Africa in Kolkata. Kohli also equalled Tendulkar’s monumental record, registering 49 hundreds in ODI cricket.

What made the achievement more special was the fact that it came on the occasion of Kohli’s 35th birthday. He is only the third batter Mitchell Marsh and Ross Taylor to notch an ODI World Cup century on their birthday. Kohli became the second Indian batter to aggregate more than 6,000 runs in the format, after Tendulkar. He currently has 1573 runs in the World Cup, which is the third-highest in the history of the tournament.

Having won all eight matches, India are sitting at the top of the table in the World Cup. They will look to continue the winning momentum in the upcoming fixture against the Netherlands, slated to be hosted in Bengaluru on November 12.
