The Meta-owned popular photo and video sharing social networking platform Instagram is reportedly testing a new feature called ‘AI friend’. This feature enables users to create their personalised artificial intelligence (AI)-powered imaginary friend.
Known leaker Alessandro Paluzzi, took to micro-blogging platform X (Previously known as Twitter) shared screenshots said that: “#Instagram is working on the ability to create an #AI friend.”

According to Paluzzi, users would be able to chat with the AI to “answer questions, talk through any challenges, brainstorm ideas and much more.
Based on the provided screenshots, users will have the option to tailor their AI friend’s characteristics, such as gender (female, male, or non-binary) and age (young, adult, or elderly). Additionally, users can customise elements like ethnicity, personality traits, and interests.
To further customise your AI friend, you can choose their interests, which will inform its personality and the nature of its conversations. The options include animals, career, education, entertainment ,music, nature and more. After completing these customisations, the Meta-owned app will allow users to name their AI friends and select avatars for them.
According to screenshots, users will be able name their AI friend. You will then be taken to a chat window, where you could click a button to start conversing with the AI.
However, Instagram has not made any official statement about this upcoming feature. It is important for readers to wait for the official announcement from the social media platform,
